Based
on research from many sources, I would recommend 1/4" glass for all tanks up to
14" tall, and 24" in depth (front to back). The length of the tank doesn't
matter.
If you are building an aquarium any taller, or deeper (front to
back), I strongly suggest 3/8" glass.
For safety reasons though, if your
intention is to build some sort of a huge monstrosity, do some research for
yourself, and consult a professional.
I am not an expert on glass, do
not even begin to claim to know anything about it's tensile strength, and don't
know how much glass will flex under various pressures.
I am not, and
will never be, responsible for someones tank exploding in the middle of the
night (or any other time of day), nor for the damage it might cause to a person
or property.
That being said, be smart, use your head, and apply a
little bit, or a lot, of common sense so that you don't end up with a really
big mistake that might cause damage, harm someone, or initiate a
divorce....good luck! |
